I spent a week in the small, east-greenlandic island village of Kulusuk (population: 300). We got snowed in for several days after our flight was supposed to leave but are finally back in Reykjavik. I thought I knew what isolation was. I did not.
Ammassalik, the section of Greenland we were in, has a population of 10,000 but is larger than the United Kingdom.

Our guide Johann described Kulusuk as a combonation between the wild west and the gold rush in Alaska. Then he rode away on an ATV to shoot his AK-47 in to the mountains. Our two closest neighbors killed their uncles and then tried to commit suicide and failed (one blew off his left eye). However, as the one in the yellow house is a dangerous loner; the one in the green house is "just fine".
A google image search for "kulusuk" comes up with

I took a bunch of pictures, I'll make a big post of them and some stories as soon as I get done sorting them both out.
